About Nonsurdle

What is Nonsurdle?

Nonsurdle is a quirky twist on the classic Wordle game, where players are tasked with guessing a five-letter word - but there's a catch. The words in Nonsurdle aren’t real; they’re completely made up! Every word in Nonsurdle is a "fake" word, generated using a Markov Chain process to mimic real English words without being actual words themselves. Players can still apply the usual Wordle logic of guessing letters, but instead of real words, they’ll be figuring out fake words that could plausibly exist in the English language. With only one puzzle per day and a new set of fake words to guess each day, Nonsurdle offers a fresh and creative challenge for fans of word games looking for something a bit different.

How to Play

Playing Nonsurdle follows the basic mechanics of Wordle but with the added fun and challenge of fake words. Here’s how you can get started:

 - Objective:

  • The goal of Nonsurdle is to guess the five-letter word of the day, but unlike Wordle, the word doesn’t exist in any dictionary. Instead, it’s a fake word that looks plausible based on the structure of the English language.

 - Making a Guess:

  • You’ll be given six attempts to guess the correct word. Each time you guess a word, you’ll receive feedback on how close your guess is to the target word.

 - Feedback and Clue System:

The game uses the same feedback mechanism as Wordle:

  • Green letters mean that the letter is in the correct position.
  • Yellow letters mean that the letter is in the word, but not in the correct position.
  • Gray letters mean the letter is not in the word at all.

Use this feedback to refine your guesses and work your way toward the correct word.

 -  Unique Fake Words:

  • The real twist comes with the fact that the word you’re guessing doesn’t exist! Instead of real words, you’ll be guessing made-up words that follow English-like letter patterns. These words are generated by a Markov Chain, where letter pairings are based on the frequency of those pairs appearing in common five-letter English words.

 - Word Generation Process:

  • Each day, the game uses a two-step Markov Chain to generate a list of 6,000 fake words. Analyzing common English letter pairings (like "ch", "sh", and "tr"), produces new, fake words that resemble real ones but don’t exist. While it’s possible for some obscure or foreign words to sneak through, the goal is to create words that are pronounceable and sound realistic.

 - New Puzzle Every Day:

  • Nonsurdle offers one puzzle per day, and each puzzle comes with a unique set of fake words to guess. The dictionary changes daily, so even if you’ve played before, you’ll always have a new word to guess.

 - Post Your Favorite Words:

  • After playing, you can share your favorite fake words and make up definitions for them. The game encourages players to post their creative thoughts about the words they guess, turning the game into a fun social activity.

 - No Progress Saved:

  • One important thing to note is that Nonsurdle does not save your progress if you leave the page. If you close the game or refresh the page, you will lose your guesses and have to start over.

Nonsurdle is a fun and creative spin on the traditional Wordle formula, taking away real words and replacing them with invented ones that follow the same logical patterns. This game is perfect for word enthusiasts who are looking for a fun, unpredictable challenge with each new puzzle. The fake words may leave you scratching your head, but that’s all part of the fun—plus, you get to invent meanings for these words and share them with others! Try it out and enjoy the randomness of Nonsurdle each day!
