About Wordris

What is Wordris?

Wordris is a unique and creative puzzle game that blends the mechanics of typing with the classic gameplay of Tetris. Created in just five days for the Interstellar Game Jam 5, this game challenges players to type words and then turn the letters into Tetris pieces that fall into place. It's a fast-paced and engaging experience that tests both your typing speed and strategic thinking. The game was born out of a moment of frustration during the development of a previous idea, but it quickly evolved into a fun and addictive game that offers a fresh take on the Tetris genre.

How to Play Wordris

Playing Wordris is a simple yet challenging experience. Here's a step-by-step guide to how the game works:

 - Type a Word: To start, type a word using the English alphabet (A-Z). Each letter you type will turn into a Tetris piece that will drop down the screen, similar to the classic Tetris gameplay.

 - Tetris Mechanics: Once your word has been typed out, the letters transform into tetrominoes, which are the familiar shapes from Tetris. These shapes will then fall into place on the screen, and you must arrange them to fit neatly, just like in Tetris.

 - Repeat the Process: After the first word, type another word. The game will continue in this loop—type a word, watch the letters transform into Tetris pieces, and then arrange them to avoid losing. Keep going until you run out of space or can no longer fit the tricycles.

 - Game Over: The game ends when you can no longer place the falling tetrominoes because the screen is filled and there’s no room left. The goal is to keep typing words and solving the Tetris puzzle for as long as possible.

Controls

 - Typing:

  • Alphabets (A-Z): Use the English alphabet to type words. The game has not been tested with non-English keyboards.
  • Backspace: Use this key to delete the last character if you make a mistake.
  • Enter: This key can be used as an alternative to clicking the button in the user interface for keyboard users.

 - Tetris Controls:

  • Spacebar: Use the spacebar to drop the thumbnails to the bottom of the screen quickly.
  • Up Arrow Key: Rotate the tetromino to fit it in the available space.
  • Left/Right Arrow Keys: Move the tetromino left or right to position it where you want.
  • Down Arrow Key: Move the tetromino down more quickly.

Wordris is a delightful fusion of two classic gameplay elements—typing and Tetris—offering a refreshing twist on the beloved puzzle genre. Whether you're testing your typing speed or your ability to solve spatial puzzles under pressure, Wordris provides a fun and challenging experience for players of all levels.
